The Philadelphia Eagles Soar Over The NY Jets 24 – 17

The Eagles win. The Eagles win! The Philadelphia Eagles earned their first victory of the season soaring over the NY Jets 24 – 17.

Daren Sproles has been the Philadelphia Eagles most consistent threat through the first three games of the 2015 season, and it was Sproles’ yeoman effort that helped lead the way to the Eagles first win of the season.  Sproles scored on a 1 yard TD run to give the Eagles a decisive 24 – 0 lead, but it was his electrifying 89 yard punt return for a TD that had the Eagles soaring.

Sproles fielded the ball along the left sideline, avoided tacklers, and then raced up the sideline and into the end zone to give the Eagles a 10 – 0 lead.  Ryan Matthews, who was filling in for the injured DeMarco Murray, scored on a 23 yard swing pass from Sam Bradford to give the Eagles an early 10 – 0 lead.   The Eagles scored 3 TD’s in the second quarter.  Kicker Cody Parker Opened the scoring with a 30 yard field goal to give the Eagles an early first quarter lead.

The Eagles defense was stingy holding the Jets to 7 first half points and not allowing another score until the fourth quarter.  The Philly D held the potent Jets’ running game to a total of 47 yards, and only gave up 276 yards in the air.  The Defense forced four turnovers, and Connor Barwin registered a sack.  Rookies Eric Rowe and Jordan Hicks registered their first career interceptions, while veteran Walter Thurmond added an interception.

Sam Bradford finished completing 14 -28 passes for 118 yards and 1 TD, but Ryan Matthews really got things clicking rushing for 108 yards on 25 carries.

The 1 – 2 Eagles travel to Washington to face the 1- 2 Redskins in a NFC East showdown Sunday, Oct 4.
