Carolina Panthers: Cam Newton’s First Media Day

on

The Carolina Panthers had their first day of training camp on July 31, 2015. On that same day, Cam Newton also had his first media session. He answered questions about his health, development, offseason activities, and more. What I heard from Cam is that he is now a 5-year vet, who feels great, and lives life to the fullest.

Here are some of Cam Newton’s responses:

Health: “I had a person ask me if this was the best shape I’ve ever been in my life. I don’t want to say that, but this is probably the best I’ve felt in a long time. That’s saying a lot. Waking up and being able to run and not limp, and an obvious limp, too.”

Veteran: “This is going into my fifth year. Oh my God, I’m that vet now. You see it all in my facial hair. Going into my fifth year, you see the locker room change, not necessarily change, but the majority of guys understand. We have core Panthers’ guys. These guys have invested.”

YOLO: “Walking down the street you could get hit by a car, you know what I’m saying? I don’t live life with any type of regrets. When you starting playing not to get hurt with anything, that’s when those type of things happen. I’m obviously aware of the status I hold, yet, I don’t want my stardom to alienate me from the regular public. The thing that I really enjoy is going to places that people would never expect that I’m at.”

Development: “For me to be here for so long, I’d be a fool if I haven’t grown. If I didn’t show any similarities of Coach Rivera, of Coach Shula and Ken Dorsey out there. I’m supposed to be that guy, and that’s by default. When people think about quarterback, that’s the only position in all of sports that has that default ‘You’re a leader’. Whether you want it or not. I’m feeling comfortable more and more that I pride myself and my leadership that I’m naturally in.”
